The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005
This piece of legislation came into force in October 2006 throughout England and Wales.

The legislation replaces most existing Fire Safety Legislation and means that Fire Certificates are no longer issued and have no Legal Status.

As a building owner, or even if you manage a particular area of a building you would be defined as the “responsible person” under this legislation and have specific legal duties in respect to fire safety.

The main impact for you is that fire risk assessments are now mandatory and are being inspected by the enforcing authority (the fire brigade).
